I’ve been using a script to create paragraph and character styles automatically for quite some time and I’d like to share that script with you. It was developed by Thomas Silkjaer in Denmark and he has kindly given me permission to make it available here.
Simply download the script, unzip the file, and place in your Scripts Panel folder within your InDesign application folder. Select a text frame in InDesign and double-click on the auto_create_p_c_styles.jsx script in the Scripts panel and it will create styles from all the text in the selected frame.
Hi Erica! Tried this with InDesign 2017 and it would either change the formatting of the selected text or give an error. I assume it’s because the script hasn’t been updated for 2017 yet? Would love to use it! Let me know if you get a chance to update it. Thanks much!
I know this is late, but I just thought I’d come back and say that I’ve been using the script with 2017 and it seems to be working for me. Are you selecting a text frame first, then running the script? Let me know if you’re still having issues.
Thanks for letting me know, Lori! Unfortunately, the script isn’t mine and the developer is no longer working on it. I will see if I can have a developer friend update it. I’m also sad if this is the case, because it’s one of my favorite scripts!
